High design flexibility: maximum freedom of choice for casting shape and size, capable of producing parts with complex shapes and hollow sections, allowing for rapid production from drawings and shorter delivery times.
Strong metallurgical flexibility and variability: different chemical compositions and microstructures can be selected to meet different project needs, and mechanical properties can be adjusted over a wide range through different heat treatment processes, improving weldability and usability.
High overall structural strength: high project reliability, combined with lightweight design and shorter delivery times, improves price and economic competitiveness.
Balanced mechanical properties: mechanical properties are similar in all directions, offering advantages over forged steel parts and benefiting high-tech product designs requiring consideration of material properties in multiple directions.
Disadvantages: Steel melt fluidity is inferior to cast iron; the thickness of the casting structure cannot be too small, and the shape should not be too complex; cast steel parts have defects such as looseness, segregation, shrinkage, bubbles, inclusions, and coarse crystals, and their mechanical properties (mainly plasticity and toughness) are generally lower than those of forged and rolled materials of the same steel grade; vibration absorption, wear resistance, and machinability are inferior to cast iron parts, and the cost is also higher than cast iron parts.
